Introduction: Caffeine and Sport Performance Interestingly, caffeine is the most loved and widely used stimulants in America. According to the CNBC’s news reports, it stated Americans ingested their daily caffeine intake to about 400 million cups (Wapner, 2011). In fact, caffeine can be found in a variety of dietary sources, such as coffee, tea, chocolate, some soda and energy drinks, as well as some nonprescription medications. It is considered as a legal drug and consumed by all people in the society. Some people believed that that caffeine is good for healthy adults because it keep them awake, boost up their memories, as well as improve their metabolism and mental alertness. However, some people believed that caffeine brings negative†¦show more content†¦In this study, 19 semiprofessional soccer players were given either a 3 mg of caffeine per kg of body mass of caffeinated energy drink or a decaffeinated drink one hour before game. Then, they were required to per form several tests to see the effects of caffeine on their sport performance. In the result, it showed that ingesting caffeinated energy drink prior to exercise will increase the mean jump height, running speed and the total running distance (Coso Ortega, 2012). Another similar article named â€Å"Caffeine-containing energy drink improves physical performance in female soccer players† investigated the relationship between caffeine consumption and physical performance in female soccer players. This was a double-blind, placebo controlled and randomized experiment, and 18 female soccer players were participated in this study. In one session, the female soccer players were required to ingest a caffeinated energy drink that contained 3 mg of caffeine per kg of body mass. In another session, they were required to consume a same placebo drink. Then, they performed several tests after one hour. The results in this study also showed that ingesting caffeine one hour before the exercis e will improve the mean jump height, running speed, as well as the total running distance (Lara, Coso Areces, 2013).
